Treatment of surfaces to be coated
Floor treatment is a wide-ranging and complex issue and must be analysed individually on a case-by-case basis.
To start with, it’s essential to ensure that the substrate is of a high quality and to check for cracks and moisture, oil residues and salt efflorescence.
If the floor has previously been tiled, treatment may involve removing the tiles, filling and sealing, using mechanical abrasion pretreatments and applying special primers.
One key requirement for successful application is to start with a level floor. Since these systems are self-levelling, the technical performance and aesthetic finish of the floor depend on this requirement being met.
Application
The product is meant to be applied by professionals, in one of two ways.
- airless: using suitable high-pressure pumps and guns, when application needs to be quick and cover large areas.
- pouring: pouring the resin over the floor and using trowels to help spread the product to cover the whole surface, ideal for small jobs or when working in cramped spaces.
How thick the product is to be applied varies depending on such factors as: surface absorption, the standard of finish of the substrate and how level it is.
On average, thickness ranges from 2 to 4 mm. It dries very slowly, in approx. 36-48 hours, but can only take foot traffic once it has been left to cure for at least 6 days.
